The TDOT meeting that was scheduled last week at North Cumberland Elementary in Cumberland County was postponed and moved to Thursday, February 2 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. The primary focus of this meeting is to field public comments concerning Section 2 and Section 3 of the Highway 127 Project. Those two sections go from around The Potato Farm Road in the Woody Community of Cumberland County to Lowe Road in the Rinnie Community. TDOT has proposed that the original plan for a four-lane divided highway be changed to a two-lane highway with a passing lane (also known as a suicide lane) in the middle. We feel that the original design best suits the needs of both Fentress and Cumberland County. It is crucial that we have as many people as possible at this meeting to voice our concerns. We therefore request that any interested individuals from either county be present. The completion of the Highway 127 Project is of vital importance to the economy of Fentress County.
Last Monday, the Architect and Engineering Firm Ragan and Smith presented their Master Plan for Fentress County Parks and Recreational facilities to the Fentress County Commission and City of Jamestown as well as interested members of the public. This Master Plan is the culmination of several months of studying and assessing the various parks and recreational opportunities that we presently have as well as the potential for expanded services in the newly acquired 33 acre tract just south of the City of Jamestown. This completed study is the “First” step in developing the “New” park as well as expanding and improving our existing network of parks.
As we move forward, Fentress County Grant Writer Amanda Mainord will use the Master Plan to apply for a LPRF Grant with TDEC that could be worth up to $500,000.00. As that process unfolds, our Parks and Recreational Committee will hold public meetings to work on possible architectural designs and plans for the new park facility. We welcome comments, ideas or suggestions as this developmental process progresses.
We can be reached at 879-7713. Executive Assistant Amanda Hicks can also be reached at vog.n1524352051Tytnu1524352051oCsse1524352051rtneF1524352051@skci1524352051H.adn1524352051amA1524352051. County Commission Meetings are held every third Monday at 6:00 p.m. following a 5:00 o’clock work session. All meetings are open to the public.
