From the Desk of

J. Michael Cross County Executive

We offer our apologies to those who visit the Courthouse in the next few days. As we continue with our Courthouse Beautification Project, we are replacing some of the sidewalks around the front and sides of the courthouse. They have been a hazard for walkers, and almost impossible to negotiate for any wheel chair bound visitors. We are trying to upgrade as well as increase safety for our visitors and courthouse personnel. Additionally, it is our goal to be ADA Compliant to satisfy both State and Federal Standards. We appreciate the public’s patience during this process.

We are planning a Ground Breaking Ceremony for the new Emergency Shelter in Pall Mall on Monday, July 24. The exact time for the ceremony will be announced in the next couple of days. Everyone is invited out for this exciting event. This $315,000.00 addition comes from a CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) awarded to Fentress County. Fentress County Grant Writer Amanda Mainord has overseen the project from the beginning. We appreciate her role in obtaining the grant and the Pall Mall residents for their input and recommendations on how to best serve their community.

Fentress County Government and Grant Writer Amanda Mainord continue to evaluate home applications for the THDA Housing Grant. This $375,000.00 Grant will be used to remodel and upgrade homes in need of repair for Fentress County the elderly and economically disadvantaged of the county. Thanks to our state legislators for working to insure that Fentress County and other distressed counties throughout the state were given the opportunity to take advantage of this much needed program.

Allen Hill of Upland Design is presently putting together a RFP (Request For Proposal) to complete the renovation of the West side of the Fentress County Courthouse. In partnership with the Fentress County Chamber of Commerce and the City of Jamestown, we hope to complete the project within the next couple of months. Coupled with the Chamber of Commerce’s Beautification Grant and the Health Departments support, the finished project will provide the County and City of Jamestown with a multi-use facility ideally suited for ceremonies, music venues and festivals.

Presently, Fentress County and the City of Jamestown are partnering on an A & E Masterplan Grant for the City and County. We are working with Architect and Engineers Ragan and Smith to evaluate and recommend future recreation and park projects that will benefit the youth of Fentress County.
