From the Desk of
J. Michael Cross County Executive
As we celebrate our Country’s Independence, I am reminded of the quote by Peter Marshall where he stated “May we think of freedom, not as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right”. With the “Rocket’s Red Glare”, we picnic, camp, barbeque, go to the lake with family and friends, shoot fireworks, attend parades and patriotic celebrations, relax, vacation and just relax. At the same time, it is good to be reminded of the sacrifice made by all those who have gone on before us. The sacrifice of parents and Grandparents to give us more than they had. The opportunity to take advantage of new and exciting avenues of life. The hope of a bright future.
At the same time though, we are reminded of those who served our country to gain and preserve our freedoms. There is the great quote that says “Some Gave All, All Gave Some”. As we celebrate our independence, we thank our veterans past and present. They represent the “Heart of Freedom” and the pulse of America. As we eat those chargrilled burgers and brats, pause for a moment, raise your glass and toast those who serve our country.
We hope that everyone enjoys this very special time of the year.
