From the Desk of

J. Michael Cross County Executive

Last Thursday evening, the Fentress County Commission met in a Work Session to interview the five (5) POST Certified candidates for the Mid-Term Sheriff Appointment. The candidates were interviewed one at a time while the others waited in the new ECD Conference Room. They were asked ten (10) pre-determined questions as well as any follow-up questions from Commissioners. Questions were submitted by Commissioners and checked or examined by CTAS. John B. Mullinix was asked to serve as Moderator for the interviews while County Executive J. Michael Cross served as Facilitator and County Attorney Leslie Ledbetter served as advisor and legal expert.

The list of POST Certified candidates included James Allen Conatser, Rodney Benson Insco, Gary Wayne Ledbetter, Michael Andrew Reagon and Tommy Lee Rosencrats. Candidates were randomly drawn for interview order by Moderator Mullinix. We congratulate each candidate for their professionalism and preparedness during the interview session, and for their dedication in wanting to serve the citizens of Fentress County. The interviews provided the County Commissioners an opportunity to question, interview and evaluate the qualifications and job experience of all the POST Certified candidates. It also gave a glimpse of how each candidate performed under pressure and reacted to the unexpected.

The County Commission will make the appointment of the Mid-Term Sheriff on Monday, July 17 during their regularly scheduled monthly meeting. The newly appointed Sheriff will be sworn in by General Sessions Judge Todd Burnett in the Large Courtroom of the Fentress County Justice Center at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18.

Throughout this thorough and lengthy process, Fentress County has followed TCA Statutes, CTAS and its Advisors and Attorneys as well as Attorneys for Local Government. It has been our goal to approach this process of a Mid-Term Sheriff Appointment by meticulously adhering to existing standards and procedures in an open and transparent manner. In compliance with TCA Policies and Procedures, each candidate had to be independently Certified by POST (Police Officers Standards and Training Commission).
