From the Desk of

J. Michael Cross County Executive

Corresponding with the sale of the “Taubert Property”, the Fentress County Commission purchased approximately 33 acres just south of the City of Jamestown dedicated to the youth of Fentress County to build a youth recreation center and park. Subsequently, Fentress County Government partnered with the City of Jamestown in applying for an Architectural and Engineering Masterplan Grant from TDEC. We were informed last week that we had been awarded the A & E Masterplan Grant.

The $60,000.00 grant will be used to create a Master Plan for the proposed park. Fentress County Government and the City of Jamestown each has pledged $6,000.00 as a required match for the grant. Within the next few days, Mayor Davis and Staff will meet with the County Executive’s office and Staff to choose from a prequalified list of Architect and Engineering Firms to complete the study. Presently, we are researching the qualifications and resumes of the A & E firms to choose the best fit for our project.

Allison Fox of the Upper Cumberland Development District is acting as liaison and grant director for Fentress County with the TDEC project. Once the Master Plan is finished, it will be submitted to the Department of Parks and Recreation as a part of a LPRF Grant. The LPRF Grant is worth anywhere from $250,000.00 to $500,000.00 that would be used to develop and build the proposed Recreation Center and Park.

We are VERY proud to announce that Solid Waste Director Jackie Selby has completed the County Officials Certificate Training Program (COCTP) administered by the University of Tennessee County Technical Assistance Service (CTAS). This comprehensive training program makes Mr. Jackie Selby the county’s first Certified Public Administrator. The core classes completed by Director Selby included Audit, Capital Budgeting, Debt Management, Ethics, Financial Issues, Legal Issues, Personnel, Purchasing and Risk Management. We appreciate the time, dedication and hard work that was required to complete this training. Good job, Jackie.
