From the Desk of J. Michael Cross County Executive

Recently, the Fentress County Commission voted to purchase 33 acres near the City Limits of Jamestown on Old Highway 127 for the purpose of developing a Park and Sports Complex. The ultimate purpose of this multi-use facility is to make a long term commitment to the youth of Fentress County. Fentress County Government is partnering with the City of Jamestown in applying for a $60,000.00 Architect and Engineering Grant that will create a Master Design for the project. The Master Design will then be submitted to TDEC as an application for a $250,000.00 Development Grant. This long term project for development and construction could stretch over a 4-6 year process and would provide much needed recreational opportunities for our youth.

We are excited to announce that Phillip Hall and his family (owners of Hall Family Pharmacy, Hall’s Sports and Outdoors Inc.) have made a financial commitment to this project in the amount of $75,000.00. This endowment will be spread over a 20 year period once the park is open for public use. The purpose of the $3,750.00 annual donation is to help with upkeep and maintenance of the park. We greatly appreciate the generosity of Phillip and his family for their commitment to the youth of Fentress County. It is that kind of generosity and commitment that make us proud to be a part of the growth and resurgence of our county. Thank you Phillip and Family.

In other local news, Fentress County Government is proud to announce that our local cable provider, Comcast, is sponsoring a “York Elementary Cleanup Day” on Saturday, April 29, 2017. Comcast workers with the help of local volunteers will work to clean and spruce up York Elementary School from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Comcast Executive George Pittman will be on hand to help administrate and direct the project. Anyone wishing to volunteer can sign up by visiting the website www.comcastinthecommunity.com. Or, just simply show up to work on the 29th. We appreciate the “Back to the Community” effort of Comcast and their employees. Please, join us on “Comcast Cares Day” as we help York Elementary School and strengthen the pride that our community has in its school.
