From the Desk of

J. Michael Cross County Executive

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation just released its Annual Materials Management Report. This Annual Report evaluates each county and its recycling efforts. Fentress County is one of 37 Population Tier 1 counties. Tier 1 counties have a population of 25,000 or less. We are proud to announce that Fentress County finished in First Place among all Tier 1 counties in its recycling efforts. We want to congratulate Fentress County Solid Waste Director Jackie Selby and his staff for their dedication and determination to keep Fentress County clean and litter free. More importantly, we congratulate the citizens of the county for their continued efforts in recycling. Without community support we would not have received this honor.

Last week we visited LanPac, Inc. in Clarkrange. LanPac, located in the Old Robinson’s Manufacturing Company’s building is owned and operated by Chris Landers. At the time of our visit, LanPac had 35 workers involved with shipping and distributing books for Amazon and Walmart, with plans to add another 10 positions within the next couple of weeks. We are proud to welcome Chris Landers and LanPac to Fentress County. Anyone interested in employment with LanPac can apply at the site.

After visiting LanPac, we toured the new addition to Clarkrange High School. This state of the art multi-use facility will be an asset to the students and faculty of CHS. Included in the structure is a multi-use auditorium that will be used by ROTC, Art, Music, Theatre, Baseball and Volleyball. In addition, there will be new ROTC classrooms as well as cutting edge Science and Chemistry Laboratories. These facilities will rival any in the Upper Cumberlands. We want to congratulate Director of Schools Mike Jones and the Fentress County School Board members for their vision and sacrifice in funding this new addition.
