From the Desk of
J. Michael Cross County Executive
Last week, UCHRA Executive Director Luke Collins visited Jamestown to tour the Fentress County Senior Citizen’s Center and the Upper Cumberland Human Resources Agency. With a capacity crowd at the Senior Center, we were able to demonstrate just how active and crowded that our Center is on a daily basis. Mr. Collins was impressed by celebratory atmosphere and the infectious enthusiasm of our Seniors and Staff. We also toured the “Silver Salon”, the latest addition to the services offered to Fentress County Seniors. Mr. Collins pledged his support in trying to add much needed space to our Center. Our wish list includes offering an expanded “Exercise and Fitness Room”, an “Arts and Crafts Center” and an “Adult Daycare Center” to our facility. Following our tour of the facility, we met with Fentress County Grant Writer Amanda Mainord to explore avenues through which these goals could be accomplished. We appreciate Alice and Kelly for their hard work and dedication to our seniors and appreciate their dreams and visions for the future of all Fentress County Seniors.
The Fentress County Senior Citizen’s Center will be sponsoring a “Silent Auction” on St. Patrick’s Day as a fundraiser for senior activities at the center. Sponsors will donate a “Basket” that can be bid on from March 13 – 17, with winners being announced Friday, March 17 at 9:30 a.m. Official bidding will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 13 and end at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 16. We invited everyone to stop by the Senior Citizen’s Center and place a bid. (Hint: Some of these “Baskets” are REALLY nice). The Center will host a “St. Patrick’s Day Costume Contest” (With prizes) at 9:00, March 17, as well. We invite everyone to come out and celebrate “St. Paddy’s Day” with us.
