From the Desk of J. Michael Cross
One of our major goals has been to establish an active Audit Committee for Fentress County Government. With the leadership of Chairperson Julie Linder of CSN Financial, Fentress County now has just that. The goal of the Audit Committee is to insure that ALL governmental departments and branches are in compliance with all state and federal policies and procedures. Through constant documentation coupled with defined separation of duties, each department exemplifies accountability. Additionally, through a well-defined set of checks and balances, each department and department head provides assurances that all policies and procedures are up to date and documented. We congratulate our Audit Committee for their hard work and dedication and thank each department and department head for their continued cooperation and dedication to providing a transparent and open door policy for all of Fentress County Government.
Our Fentress County Budget Committee continues to work diligently on next year’s budget. We hope to finalize and pass next year’s budget at our August 22nd County Commission Meeting. At that time, the commission will also set the tax rate for the next fiscal year. We want to congratulate our commissioners on their continued efforts to provide Fentress County citizens with the best possible professional services available while focusing on conservative spending policies.
On Saturday, August 13th, the Clarkrange Branch of Fentress County Bank will have its Grand Opening Ceremony featuring a free concert by Country Music Superstar Lorrie Morgan. We were honored to be present at the ribbon cutting ceremony last Monday with several bank officials and members of Fentress County government. Chairman of the Board Jack Ray, Fentress County Bank President Greg Garrett and Branch Manager Jon Garrett were also in attendance. The bank’s unique architecture featuring a working windmill, “Old Barn Wood” from the original Peter’s barn and flooring from the original Peter’s Home Place were incorporated into the building. We welcome the new branch to Fentress County.
Work continues to proceed on the Courthouse roof. Martin Roofing is getting ready to finalize the project by replacing the metal on the “Bell Tower”. This metal had to be special ordered out of Georgia. We are excited to have a courthouse that doesn’t “Leak like a Sieve” when it rains. Marla’s ready to put her buckets away. Too bad we didn’t have them ready for the 127 Sale. Next year Marla.
