County Executive

We want to encourage everyone to support and attend the “Hitching Post Festival” this weekend. In addition to the talented country star Clay Walker, there will be tons of other family and kid friendly activities to enjoy. If you haven’t purchased your tickets online, they can still be purchased at the gate.

We announced the new ISO ratings for Fentress County and the City of Jamestown recently as related to our Volunteer Fire Departments. ISO ratings for home owners insurance costs are dependent upon several variables, including proximity to Fire Departments, professional training of fire fighters, equipment and tools, and number and location of fire hydrants throughout the county. As a result of these ISO improvements, many home owners should experience a significant decrease in the cost of their residential insurance premiums. Some premiums may drop as much as twenty-five percent. We want to express our gratitude for the hard work and dedication of all our Volunteer Fire Departments, the Fire Chiefs and all our Volunteer fire fighters for making this happen.

The county currently has an opening for the position of Director for the Fentress County Ambulance Service. Interested applicants may pick up an application at the County Executive’s Office. The Deadline to turn applications in will be Friday, June 3rd at 1:00 p.m. The position information is also being announced on our local radio stations and in the Fentress Courier. We want to continue to provide the citizens of Fentress County with the best possible service available. Additionally, we want to congratulate Assistant Director Brian Tompkins on his new career opportunity with the State of Tennessee. Brian’s hard work and professionalism will be missed by all of us.

We want to congratulate all our high school graduates on their achievements, and thank all our parents and guardians for their devotion, hard work and sacrifice. We wish all our graduates the best of luck as they begin to build for their future whether attending college, Vocational or Trade Schools, the Military or the work force.

As mentioned in a previous column, the Tennessee Department of Economic Development with the help of “Design Sensory Group” out of Knoxville is building an “Economic Development Website” for Fentress County. The new website should give Fentress County a much needed edge when recruiting jobs and industry. Design Sensory will be in Fentress County on June 1st and 2nd to film and photograph varies businesses including Micro Metals, Fitzgerald’s, and other operations in Fentress County.
